Heel Pain & Plantar Fasciitis Treatment in Southaven, MS

Board-certified foot and ankle care from Michael G. Lyons, DPM and Robert Wenzler, DPM at our Southaven office — 928 Goodman Road East.

Heel pain that is worst with the first steps in the morning is the classic sign of plantar fasciitis — but it is not the only cause. Nerve entrapment, heel spurs, stress fractures, and Achilles problems all present as heel pain. At our Southaven office we establish which one you actually have before treating it, which is why patients who have already tried inserts and stretching often improve here.

  • Accurate diagnosis — plantar fasciitis, nerve, bone, or tendon
  • In-office X-ray and ultrasound-guided injections
  • Custom orthotics made for your foot, not off the shelf
  • Stretching and night splint protocols with printed handouts
  • Surgical release only for cases that fail 6+ months of care

Heel Pain Treatment in Southaven — common questions

How long does plantar fasciitis take to heal?

About 80–90% of patients improve within 6 months of consistent treatment. The ones who take longest are usually those who stopped the stretching and orthotic routine as soon as the pain eased.

Should I see a podiatrist for heel pain?

Yes, if the pain has lasted more than a few weeks, is worse in the morning, or is not improving with rest and better shoes. Untreated heel pain frequently becomes chronic and changes your gait.

Do I need a cortisone shot?

Not always. Injections give fast relief for a painful flare but do not correct the mechanics causing it. We use them selectively alongside orthotics and stretching, not as the whole plan.

Do you accept my insurance?

We accept most major insurance plans, including Medicare, and can usually see new patients within the same week.
