Podiatrist for Oxford, MS & Ole Miss Area Patients
Board-certified foot and ankle care in Hernando and Southaven, on the I-55 corridor many Oxford families already travel. Michael G. Lyons, DPM and Robert J. Wenzler, DPM.
Oxford is a busy town for feet: students walking campus all day, athletes training on turf and pavement, and families who head north on I-55 to DeSoto County and Memphis for work, shopping, and weekends. If you're already making that drive, Dr. Michael G. Lyons and Dr. Robert J. Wenzler can see you at our Hernando or Southaven office. Digital X-ray is on site and may be used during an evaluation when clinically appropriate.
Oxford patients often find us because they already travel north on I-55 for work, shopping, or family in DeSoto County and Memphis. For a diabetic foot wound, the drive matters: we try to combine evaluation, debridement, dressing supplies, and offloading into each visit so the number of trips stays manageable.
If a wound needs frequent checks, we talk openly about a realistic schedule and what can be handled at home between visits. A new sore, color change, drainage, or odor on a diabetic foot should be evaluated promptly — call before the next planned trip north if something changes.
Getting here: From Oxford, most patients take Highway 6 west to Batesville and I-55 north to our Hernando office (Exit 280) — roughly an hour — or continue to Southaven on Goodman Road. We regularly see patients from Lafayette County, Mississippi, including the the University of Mississippi, the Oxford Square, Highway 6, Batesville and I-55 areas.
What brings Oxford patients in
- Students on their feet all day. Long walks across campus in worn-out sneakers or flat shoes can bring on heel pain, arch strain, and blisters. A simple change in footwear or orthotics often helps. Heel pain
- Athletes and runners. Ankle sprains, turf toe, Achilles soreness, and stress-related foot pain are common in intramural, club, and recreational sports. An exam and X-ray can sort out what needs rest and what needs more. Sports & injuries
- Bunions and hammertoes. We start with conservative care. If surgery is worth discussing, we'll explain traditional correction and Lapiplasty, plus the recovery time, so you can plan around school, work, or family. Bunion care
- Ingrown and fungal toenails. A painful ingrown nail can often be treated during an office visit. Fungal nails take patience, and we'll be honest about the options. Toenail care
- Diabetic feet and neuropathy. Regular foot exams matter for people with diabetes, and so does protecting numb feet. For sores that aren't healing, see wound care for Oxford patients.
Planning a visit from Oxford
Many Oxford patients schedule around a trip they're already taking, like a weekend heading home, an errand in Southaven, or a drive up to Memphis. When you call, tell us which day you'll be in the area. Fridays are a half day (8 a.m. to noon), so ask early if you hope to come in before the weekend.
Try to bring everything to the first visit: your insurance card, a medication list, any outside X-rays or MRI reports, and the shoes or cleats you wear most. Download the paperwork ahead of time from our forms page to save time at check-in.
Hernando is usually the first stop off I-55. If you're continuing north, the Southaven office may be more convenient. You can also learn about our Hernando office. For a sudden problem, like a new wound, signs of infection, or an injury you can't walk on, call first. Don't wait for your next planned trip.
