Non-Healing Foot Wound Treatment — Hernando & Southaven, MS
Any foot wound that has not closed in two weeks needs evaluation. We diagnose why a wound isn't healing and build a treatment plan to close it.
A non-healing wound is any wound that has not progressed toward healing in two weeks or has not closed in four to six weeks. Common causes include diabetes, poor circulation, pressure from footwear, infection, and inadequate offloading.
Our podiatrists evaluate circulation, sensation, infection, nutrition, and pressure points — then build a wound care plan combining debridement, advanced dressings, offloading, infection control, and (when needed) surgery.

Frequently asked questions
Why won't my foot wound heal?
The most common reasons are diabetes, poor circulation, ongoing pressure from footwear or walking, low-grade infection, and underlying bone problems. We evaluate each of these and address whichever is blocking healing.
How long should a foot wound take to heal?
Most small foot wounds show clear improvement within 1–2 weeks and close within 4–6 weeks. Anything slower needs a podiatry evaluation.
Do you treat wounds that other providers couldn't close?
Yes. Patients are often referred to us for chronic, complex, or recurrent wounds. We commonly close wounds that have been open for months.
Will I need surgery?
Most non-healing wounds close with conservative wound care. Surgery is reserved for deep infection, bone involvement, dead tissue, or to correct the underlying pressure point.
